GUILLERMO GUTIERREZ BEGINS ERUPTION BOXING MANAGEMENT DEAL WITH IMMEDIATE TITLE SHOT
Undefeated prospect challenges for WBC belt in first fight under new management deal
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Antonio, Texas; March 29, 2024 – Unbeaten super-flyweight hope Guillermo Gutierrez has secured a title shot in his very first fight under new management team Eruption Boxing Management.
In what is a statement of intent for both boxer and manager, 25-year-old Gutierrez will challenge for the WBC Youth Intercontinental championship at P4P Promotions’ blockbuster ‘Noche de Campeones’ event on April 20 in the Sames Auto Arena in Laredo, Texas.
The San Antonio native, who has streaked to an impressive 10-0 since turning professional in June 2021, will face old foe and Laredo’s own Jaime Jasso in a rematch for the belt.
Gutierrez and Jasso engaged in a hotly contested four-rounder in December 2021, which Gutierrez won via majority decision when both men were eager new pros.
Now they renew their rivalry over eight rounds, with a prestigious WBC belt to be handed to the winner.
“I’m excited as I have been eagerly waiting for this opportunity to get back in the ring,” said Gutierrez. “I know my opponent will be ready for me because, in our previous fight, they thought they had won. However, I am always in the gym working hard to improve myself and on April 20 my dedication and hard work will show.
“Guillermo Gutierrez is an exceptional talent with immense potential,” said Legge. “He is not only training hard but is getting better with every fight, every sparring and training session. Guillermo is on a mission and won’t stop until he reaches his goals. I’m excited to add him to my roster of promising fighters and help guide his career to new heights. San Antonio has produced some of the sport’s brightest stars, and we believe Guillermo has what it takes to join their ranks.”
While proudly representing San Antonio, Gutierrez’s preparation for his crucial showdown with Jasso has included a sparring stint at Robert Garcia’s gym in Oxnard, California – proof that the young prospect is willing to leave his comfort zone in pursuit of glory.
There, his skills were fine-tuned by Garcia, one of the sport’s most renowned coaches, who has trained such modern greats as Anthony Joshua, Nonito Donaire, Marcos Maidana and his own brother Mikey Garcia, to name just a few.
“I went to California with the mindset to learn as much as possible from Robert Garcia and his guys,” Gutierrez said. “I wanted to test my skills against some of the best fighters in the world. This trip made me a better fighter, that I know for sure.”
* Gutierrez v Jasso II for the WBC Youth Intercontinental super-flyweight championship will be one of six title fights to be staged at ‘Noche de Campeones’ in the Sames Auto Arena, Laredo, Texas, on April 20, 2024.
